CENTAR MUNICIPALITY
CENTAR MUNICIPALITY is one of the nine municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton and also urban, administrative, business, cultural, educational, health, trade and services center of the City.
It covers an area of 33 km2 with a total length (43.3 km) of the border. Of these, 16.7% are the populated areas. About 16 km of land is privately owned and 17 km is state-owned.
Centar Municipality is an extremely mountainous area with 64.6% of space, located on over 700 m above sea level, 30.5% of the area is a hilly area of 550-700 m above sea level, while the lowland area covers only 4.5% of the territory.
In the Sarajevo Canton it borders with the Municipality of Stari Grad in the east, on the west with the municipalities of Novo Sarajevo and Vogošća, and on the north with a smaller part of the municipality of Ilijaš. In the south it borders with Republika Srpska.
Although it is one of the smaller municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton, according to 2005 census, this municipality is inhabited by 70,294 people with a population density over 2,130 inhabitants / km2, thus being one of the more densely populated municipalities of the Canton. Of this number 46,840 is the active population.
